Setting expectations for gifted/high-ability learners—or empowering them to set their own expectations—can be complicated. What’s too much? Too little? Just right? As kids juggle schoolwork, commitments, emotions, asymmetrical development, social situations, chores, and more, they may need help with manageability. It’s a fast-paced, demanding world! The focus of this SENGinar is fit and flexibility— and how parents and teachers can set fair and reasonable expectations for and with children and teens. Discussion revolves around respect for their individuality including diverse and advanced learning capacities; realistic objectives; productivity-related issues; and lots of practical tips so kids can find healthy ways to cope with the many complexities and pressing realities of daily life. Dr. Foster shares her expertise in gifted/high-level development, and refers to her new book Bust Your BUTS: Tips for Teens Who Procrastinate (2017), to its predecessor Not Now, Maybe Later: Helping Children Overcome Procrastination (2015), and also to Beyond Intelligence: Secrets for Raising Happily Productive Kids (2014) and Being Smart about Gifted Education (2009) (both co-authored with Dona Matthews).
This SENGinar will exceed expectations!
